Lesley Thompson
Lesley Thompson has lived in Edmonton Manning for 20 years. Her advocacy is rooted in workers’ rights; she remembers attending Railroad Union meetings with her grandfather when she was just 3 years old.
Like many Albertans, Lesley has witnessed first-hand the devastating cuts to healthcare at the hands of the Conservative provincial government. That’s why she is a proud co-founder of Pump4Life, an advocacy group representing over 4000 Albertans living with Type 1 Diabetes. Lesley played a vital role in successfully reversing cruel Conservative cuts to the provincial therapy program that paid for pumps and supplies for thousands of Albertans who couldn’t afford these life saving devices.
Throughout her time working as a creative producer for CTV, CityTV, Rogers Media, and Sportsnet, Lesley helped small to medium businesses and non-profits get their creative ads on TV. She was also a proud IBEW negotiation committee member and was a crucial voice in steering her union through various collective agreement negotiations with management.
When she can find the time, Lesley can be found tending her community gardens, volunteering at community town halls, and spending time with her nephew and godson.
Lesley believes that the people of Edmonton Manning deserve a representative who will bring their stories to Ottawa. She is ready to do her part to fight for a Canada where workers are treated with dignity and respect, where everyone can access health care when they need it, and where a full-time job is enough to pay the bills and afford a home. Lesley and the NDP will build a government that puts people first.
